The best morning-to-night food crawl in Highland Park

April 2026

Park once, eat everything. That's the move in Highland Park. Drop your car on N Figueroa somewhere between York and Avenue 57, street parking is genuinely easy on weekend mornings if you arrive before 9:30. From there, almost everything on this list is a short walk or a five-minute Lyft away.

8:30am, Coffee & something good at Tierra Mia
Start on Figueroa. Tierra Mia is your warm-up. Order the horchata latte, it's creamy, lightly spiced, and feels invented specifically for a slow Saturday morning. The café de olla is the move if you want something more traditional. Either way, you're easing in.

9:15am, Breakfast at Kitchen Mouse
Walk a few blocks up to Kitchen Mouse at 5904 N Figueroa. Grab a spot on the patio if it's sunny (it probably is). The avocado toast is the crowd-pleaser for a reason, but the vegan grain bowls are quietly excellent and will actually keep you full for what's ahead. They take reservations, worth it for groups of four or more.

10:30am, Walk it off at Flying Pigeon
Stroll down to Flying Pigeon LA at 4419 N Figueroa. It's part bike shop, part community hangout, part neighborhood soul. Browse the bikes, chat up whoever's working. This is the palate cleanser between meals and a good excuse to stretch your legs before the sandwich situation that's coming.

11:30am, The sandwich at Wax Paper
This one requires a short drive or 15-minute walk over to 2902 Knox Ave. Wax Paper is non-negotiable. Their sandwiches are genuinely creative, house-made condiments, unexpected combinations, the kind of thing you'll describe to someone the next day. Order whatever the special is. Trust it. Eat half now and save half for literally never because you'll finish it immediately.

1:00pm, Soda break at Galco's Soda Pop Stop
Head to 5702 York Blvd and lose 45 minutes of your life in the best possible way. Galco's carries 500+ specialty and vintage sodas, flavors you've never heard of, brands from four different countries, and the cold Mexican Coke in a glass bottle that makes everything feel right. Grab two or three bottles for the road. The staff knows everything and will point you toward something weird and perfect.

2:00pm, Browse at The Quiet Life
You're back on Figueroa now. Pop into The Quiet Life at 5627 N Figueroa, clean streetwear, good energy, nice place to window shop while your lunch settles. No pressure to buy anything. It's just a good vibe.

3:00pm, Tacos at Villa's Tacos
A few blocks up to 5455 N Figueroa. Villa's Tacos is a Highland Park staple with a patio that gets afternoon light just right. The birria tacos are what people come for, rich, dippable, deeply satisfying. Order three minimum. Sit outside. Take your time.

4:30pm, Afternoon drink at The Hermosillo
Walk or drive over to 5125 York Blvd. The Hermosillo is the neighborhood bar in the best sense, unpretentious, well-poured, good draft beer selection and whiskey that won't make you do math. It's quiet in the late afternoon, which is exactly when you want it.

6:30pm, Dinner at Hippo
Back to the north end of Figueroa. Hippo at 5918 N Figueroa is where the night steps up. Make a reservation. The food is seasonal and genuinely thoughtful, this is the dinner you'll remember. Order cocktails. Get the patio if you can. It's a full sit-down moment, so let it be one.

8:00pm, Wine next door at Highland Park Wine
Literally next door at 5918½ N Figueroa. Yes, half an address. Yes, it's worth finding. Natural wines, knowledgeable pours, the kind of narrow-room spot that feels like a secret even when it's busy. Have a glass before the last move.

9:30pm, Live music at Lodge Room
End the night at Lodge Room, 104 N Avenue 56. This place books real national touring acts, indie, rock, things you actually want to see, in a standing-room format that makes every show feel close. Check their calendar before you plan the day and build backward from whatever's on. Some of the best nights in LA happen in this room.

The whole crawl stays tight to Figueroa and York, which is the whole point. Highland Park rewards people who just show up and walk. Do it on a Saturday, wear comfortable shoes, and bring cash to a few spots. You'll be back next weekend.
