best pizza, tacos, and cheap eats in frogtown

April 2026

Frogtown doesn't have a flashy main street or a velvet-rope dining scene. What it has is better: a tight stretch of the LA River, a crew of regulars who actually know each other, and a handful of spots where you can eat really well without spending a lot. Here's where locals actually go.

Rick's Drive In & Out · 2400 Fletcher Dr

This is the anchor. Rick's has been slinging burgers, fries, and breakfast plates long enough to feel like it belongs to the neighborhood the way the river does. The brunch crowd lines up on weekends, but if you show up on a weekday morning you can grab a window spot without the wait. Cash-friendly, no-fuss, and the kind of place where the person behind the counter remembers your order. Rated 4.4★ and one of the few true drive-in setups left in this part of the city. Get the burger combo. Get the fries.

Thai Taste Restaurant · 2328 Fletcher Dr

A couple blocks up Fletcher, Thai Taste is the neighborhood's quiet overachiever. The pad see ew is deeply satisfying, the portions are generous, and the prices are still living in an older, kinder Los Angeles. It's a good spot for groups, they take reservations, and the room is calm enough for an actual conversation. Rated 4.5★. Go early on weeknights to avoid the wait.

Lingua Franca · 2990 Allesandro St

For something a little more considered, Lingua Franca on Allesandro is doing the kind of cooking that draws people across the river. The menu rotates but tends toward wood-fired, shareable, and seasonal. If they have a pizza or flatbread situation on the menu the night you go, order it. Rated 4.4★ and priced at $$, which in Frogtown still feels reasonable.

Flore Vegan · 3818 W Sunset Blvd

Technically just over the line toward Silver Lake, but the Frogtown crowd claims it and has for years. Fully vegan, fully good, and the breakfast plates in particular are worth the short ride. Rated 4.5★. If you're doing a morning bike ride along the river, this is a logical endpoint.

After you eat: the cheap drink situation

Frogtown Brewery at 2931 Gilroy St is the obvious move. Craft IPAs brewed on-site, rotating seasonal taps, and a warehouse vibe that feels genuinely local rather than manufactured. Rated 4.7★ and priced at $$, which, for a brewery with this much going on, is a deal. The frog spot on the LA River Bike Path is even more casual, basically a cold beer with a river view, which is sometimes exactly the right thing.

Before or after: grab a coffee

Constellation Coffee at 2479 N Glendale Blvd is a 4.8★ neighborhood staple with a patio and the kind of drinks that don't require a glossary to order. Cafecito Organico at 2902 Gilroy St is the other strong option, also patio, also excellent, and right next to the brewery if you're doing a full Gilroy St loop.

A note on parking

Fletcher Drive is your best bet for street parking on the south end of the neighborhood. Gilroy St has a little more breathing room. If you're coming from Atwater or Silver Lake, the river bike path is genuinely the better option, lock up at Marsh Park (2490 Fletcher Dr) and walk to almost everything on this list.

The honest take

Frogtown isn't trying to be a food destination. That's actually why the food is good. The spots that have stuck around here earned it, by being consistent, being reasonably priced, and being part of the neighborhood rather than dropped into it. Show up hungry. You'll leave happy.
