best coffee shops and cafes in frogtown

April 2026

Frogtown doesn't do corporate coffee. The cafes here are small, personal, and usually within a short ride of the LA River bike path. Whether you're rolling in on two wheels or walking over from Fletcher, you'll find a cup that actually means something. Here's where to go.

Constellation Coffee · 2479 N Glendale Blvd · 4.8★

This is the one people talk about. Constellation has quietly become one of the best-rated coffee shops in the neighborhood, and once you sit on the patio with a well-pulled espresso, you'll understand why. The space feels intentional without trying too hard, exactly the Frogtown energy. Go in the morning before the patio fills up. Street parking on Glendale Blvd is usually findable before 9am.

Cafecito Organico Roasting Co. · 2902 Gilroy St · 4.7★

Tucked over on Gilroy near the brewery corridor, Cafecito Organico is roasting their own beans on-site, which already puts them in a different category. The vibe is relaxed and unpretentious, the kind of place where regulars know the staff by name. They have a patio too, and the light out there in the late morning is genuinely lovely. Order a single-origin pour over if it's on the menu. Worth the extra two minutes.

Coco's Variety Store · 2427 Riverside Dr · 4.7★

Don't let the name fool you. Coco's is a neighborhood gem, part café, part corner shop, all Frogtown. It's small, it's local, and it has exactly the kind of character that keeps people coming back. Great for a quick coffee before a river walk or a browse. Riverside Drive has decent street parking along the block.

La Colombe · 2828 Newell St · 4.6★

Yes, La Colombe is a national brand, but this location earns its place on the list. The Newell Street spot has a solid patio setup and handles groups better than most places in the neighborhood, useful if you're meeting a few friends after a Saturday farmers market run. Their draft latte is the move if you've never had it. Slightly more polished than the other spots here, which is sometimes exactly what you need.

Just What I Kneaded · 2029 Blake Ave · 4.6★

This one is technically a café and bakery, and the baked goods are the reason to come. The patio on Blake is a sweet spot for weekend brunch, unhurried, neighborhood-y, the kind of table you don't want to leave. Order something from the pastry case before you sit down. They do brunch well, and it's a natural stop if you're already over by the Elysian Valley Arts Collective on the same street. Street parking on Blake is generally easy on weekday mornings.

A few honest notes

Most of these spots are cash-friendly but card is fine everywhere. Frogtown parking is rarely a nightmare if you go early or on a weekday. And if you're combining a coffee run with a river walk, Constellation and Cafecito Organico are both close to the Marsh Park access points at 2490 Fletcher Dr and 2960 Marsh St, grab a cup first, then head to the water.

This neighborhood rewards the slow morning. Take your time.
