A Rainy Day in Frogtown (It's Actually Perfect)

April 2026

Frogtown doesn't need sunshine. When the rain comes in off the San Gabriels and the river starts to run, this little neighborhood along the LA gets genuinely cinematic. Here's how to spend a full soggy day here without wasting a single hour.

Start at Constellation Coffee · 2479 N Glendale Blvd · ~9am
Park anywhere on Glendale and walk in. It's small, it's warm, and the espresso is the kind that makes you rethink your usual order. Get a cortado and whatever pastry is sitting on the counter. Don't rush. Watch the rain hit the window. This is the move.

Walk over to Holyland Exhibition · 2115 Lake View Ave · ~10am
It's about a 5-minute walk east. This place is genuinely one of the strangest and most wonderful spots in all of LA, a handmade recreation of ancient Jerusalem built inside a private home over decades. Ring the bell. Pay the few dollars. Give it an hour. You will not stop thinking about it.

Drift down to Elysian Valley Arts Collective · 1845 Blake Ave · ~11:30am
Head back toward Blake Ave. The collective keeps rotating local work on the walls and the vibe is always unhurried. On a rainy Tuesday you might have the whole place to yourself. Check their Instagram before you go to see what's up, sometimes there's a pop-up or an artist in residence worth meeting.

Lunch at Just What I Kneaded · 2029 Blake Ave · ~12:30pm
You're already on Blake, so just walk a few doors down. Order the avocado toast if it's on the board, or whatever the brunch special is. The bread is the whole point, dense, real, the kind a bakery-café earns its name on. Grab a window seat and let the afternoon slow down.

Afternoon at Zebulon · 2476 Fletcher Dr · ~2:30pm
Drive or walk up Fletcher. Zebulon is a bar and music venue that feels like it was built for exactly this kind of afternoon, low light, good natural wine, and often live music or a DJ even on weekday afternoons. Check their calendar. Order a glass of something and stay longer than you planned.

Quick stop: Frogtown Brewery · 2931 Gilroy St · ~4:30pm
Head up Gilroy. The brewery is cozy enough that a rainy evening here feels intentional. Try one of the rotating seasonal taps, ask whoever's pouring what came in this week. The IPAs are brewed on-site and they take them seriously. This is a good spot to text a friend and tell them to meet you.

Dinner at Thai Taste · 2328 Fletcher Dr · ~6:30pm
Head back down Fletcher. Thai Taste is the kind of neighborhood restaurant that locals are quietly possessive about. The drunken noodles are the call. Make a reservation if you're coming with more than two people, the room fills up fast once the rain brings everyone indoors.

End the night at Prada Silver Frog · Fletcher and Clearwater · ~8:30pm
It's a short walk from Thai Taste. The Silver Frog is a dive bar in the best possible way, unpretentious, reliably fun, neighborhood regulars at the bar. Have one more drink. If the rain has slowed to a drizzle, step outside for a second. Frogtown at night in the wet is something.

A few practical notes: Park on Glendale Blvd in the morning and you can walk the Blake Ave stretch easily. Bring an actual umbrella, the blocks between spots are short but open. Most of these places are cash-friendly but carry a card. And if the river is running fast when you drive over the bridge, stop for ten seconds and look. That's the whole thing about this neighborhood.
