best coffee shops and cafes in los feliz

April 2026

Los Feliz has a coffee shop for every kind of morning. Whether you're walking down from the hills, killing time before a movie at the Vista, or just need somewhere quiet to read, this neighborhood delivers. Here are the spots worth knowing.

Maru Coffee · 1936 Hillhurst Ave
Maru is the one locals keep coming back to. The space is calm and minimal, the espresso is dialed in, and the pour-overs are taken seriously without any attitude. It sits right on Hillhurst, which means foot traffic but somehow still feels unhurried. Go mid-morning on a weekday if you want a seat. Rated 4.6★ and consistently one of the most recommended coffee stops in the neighborhood.

Alcove Cafe · 1929 Hillhurst Ave
Alcove is the classic. It's been anchoring this stretch of Hillhurst for years and the sprawling patio is the reason. On a Sunday morning, grab a table outside, order the mimosas, and stay longer than you planned. The brunch menu is solid, pastries, egg dishes, the works. It gets busy on weekends so arrive before 10am or expect a wait. Street parking on Hillhurst fills up fast; try the side streets off Franklin. Rated 4.5★.

Earth Organic Juice Bar · 1753 Hillhurst Ave
If coffee isn't your thing, or you want something alongside it, Earth Organic is doing things right. A 4.9★ rating tells you everything. The menu leans fresh and clean, cold-pressed juices, smoothies, light cafe bites. It's a small, neighborhood-feel spot that punches well above its size. Great stop before a hike up in Griffith Park.

Daily Donuts · 1908 Hillhurst Ave
Not a coffee shop in the traditional sense, but you absolutely pair your coffee here. Old-school donut shop, no frills, 4.7★. It opens early and the classics, glazed, old-fashioned, maple bars, are exactly what you want them to be. Get there before 9am for the best selection.

Skylight Books (nearby for the vibe) · 1818 Vermont Ave
Okay, it's a bookstore. But the Hillhurst cafe corridor is only a few blocks from Vermont, and if your idea of a perfect morning involves coffee followed by wandering through hand-written staff recommendation cards and literary fiction, you're building a full Los Feliz ritual here. Rated 4.7★. The two locations, Skylight Books and the Skylight Part Deux Arts Annex at 1814 N Vermont Ave, together make Vermont Ave feel like the kind of street you move to a neighborhood for.

A note on the neighborhood layout
Most of these spots cluster on Hillhurst Ave between Franklin and Hollywood Blvd, and on Vermont Ave around the 1800s block. The two strips are walkable from each other. If you're driving in from outside the neighborhood, the municipal lot off Hillhurst near Franklin is your best bet on weekends. Weekday mornings are generally easy.

The full morning move
Maru for coffee, Daily Donuts if you want something sweet, then walk down to Skylight Books. That's a Los Feliz morning. Add Alcove's patio on a Sunday and you've got nowhere else to be.
