A Rainy Day in Eagle Rock (It's Actually Perfect)
Here's the thing about rain in Eagle Rock: the neighborhood was built for it. The old buildings on Colorado feel moodier. The taco trucks smell better. And everyone slows down just enough to actually talk to each other. Block out a Saturday and do this.
9am, Super Copy (2256 Colorado Blvd, Ste 103). Start here. It's small, it's serious about coffee, and the 4.9 stars are not an accident. Get a cortado and whatever pastry is on the counter. Park on Colorado or side-street it onto Argus, there's usually something within a block.
9:45am, Milkfarm (2106 Colorado Blvd). Walk west about six minutes. Milkfarm is technically a cheese shop but really it's a whole mood. Pick up a wedge of something funky, maybe a little jar of something spreadable. You'll thank yourself later tonight.
10am, Old Focals (2120 Colorado Blvd). Literally next door. If you need a second coffee, and on a rainy day you do, Old Focals is where you linger. Bring a book. Nobody's rushing you out.
11am, Permanent Records (1906 Cypress Ave). Cut one block north on Argus to Cypress. This record store is the real thing: curated vinyl, knowledgeable staff, and, critically, cold beer on tap. Yes, at 11am. Yes, it counts. Flip through the dollar bins while rain taps the windows. This is the move.
12:30pm, La Sorted's (1827 Colorado Blvd). Walk back to Colorado and head east. La Sorted's is an Italian deli and market and the sandwiches are legitimately great. Order at the counter, grab a spot, eat slowly. Get the meatball or whatever the special is, they know what they're doing.
2pm, Vidiots (4884 Eagle Rock Blvd). Drive or rideshare down Eagle Rock Blvd, it's about a mile and a half from La Sorted's. Vidiots is a nonprofit film nonprofit with a massive physical video library and an actual theater that screens movies regularly. Check their calendar before you go (vidiotsfoundation.org) because afternoon screenings on rainy days sell out. Even if you just browse the stacks, it's worth the trip.
4:30pm, Leanna Lin's Wonderland (5024 Eagle Rock Blvd). Right up the street from Vidiots. This gallery and gift shop is genuinely joyful, colorful, weird, full of things made by real artists. Good place to pick up something small for someone you like, including yourself.
5pm, Ruby Bakery (5042 Eagle Rock Blvd). Two doors up. Get something with butter in it. Sit down if there's room. This is your between-acts intermission.
6pm, Western Bottle Shop and Bar (2305 Colorado Blvd). Head back toward the center of Colorado. Western is a proper bottle shop with a bar attached, which means you can drink something excellent while deciding what to bring home. Natural wine, good beer, no attitude. Perfect rainy evening energy.
7:30pm, Capri Club (4604 Eagle Rock Blvd). Dinner. Drive back down Eagle Rock Blvd. Capri does Italian-American classics and has a whole Negroni menu, which is exactly what you want when it's cold and wet outside. Order the Negroni first, then figure out food. The vibe is dark and warm and the right amount of loud.
Late, Colorado Bar (2640 Colorado Blvd). End the night here. It's a genuine dive, well drinks are cheap, the jukebox is good, and nobody's performing anything. Just Eagle Rock people riding out the rain. Cash helps but cards work. Stay as long as you want.
The whole day is walkable in chunks and drivable between them. Wear actual shoes. Bring a tote bag for Milkfarm and Permanent Records. And if it's really pouring, lean in. That's the point.
