A Rainy Day in Atwater Village (It's Actually Perfect)

April 2026

Here's the thing about Atwater on a rainy day, the strip on Glendale Blvd gets cozy in a way it doesn't when it's 85 and sunny. Everyone slows down. Windows fog up. It's honestly one of the best days to be here.

Start around 9am at Proof Bakery (3156 Glendale Blvd). Get there early because the laminated pastries go fast, the croissant is legitimately one of the best in the city, and if there's a seasonal tartine on the board, grab that too. Grab a coffee, find a seat, and just sit for a minute. Let the rain do its thing.

Park on Glendale Blvd or side-street it on Edenhurst, everything you're doing today is walkable from here, so just leave the car.

Walk two blocks north to The Racket Doctor (3214 Glendale Blvd) if you need a second coffee and want to browse. It's a quirky little spot that feels like a discovery even if you've been before. Good for killing 20 minutes while the rain picks up.

By now it's probably around 10:30. Head into the Atwater Art Walk galleries along Glendale Blvd. The first Saturday of the month is the official walk, but most of the galleries keep regular hours and a rainy weekday means you'll basically have the place to yourself. Take your time.

Lunch at Baby Battista (3111 Glendale Blvd), this is the move. It's a red-sauce Italian spot that feels like exactly what you want when it's grey outside. Order the spaghetti and meatballs. Don't overthink it. The chicken parmigiana is also excellent if you're going full commitment.

Right next door is Nico's Bottleshop (3111 Glendale Blvd #2). After lunch, pop in and let them talk you into a bottle to take home. The staff actually knows wine and it's never a hard sell, more like getting a recommendation from a friend who happens to have great taste.

Duck into via romi (3129 Glendale Blvd) while you're in the block. It's a small shop with the kind of things you didn't know you needed, good for browsing, great for gifts.

Mid-afternoon, warm up at Bar Sinizki on Glendale. Eastern European small plates and a tight natural wine list. Order something with pickles and something with bread and let the afternoon stretch out. This is the vibe.

If you've got a sweet tooth left, Wanderlust Creamery (3134 Glendale Blvd) is right there. Yes, ice cream in the rain. Yes, it's worth it. The flavors are unlike anything else in the city, rotating and always interesting.

End the night at Hail Mary (3219 Glendale Blvd). Neighborhood pizza, craft cocktails, warm room. Order a pie and whatever the bartender's excited about. It's the exact right place to be when it's still drizzling outside and you're not ready to go home yet.

The whole day is basically one walkable stretch of Glendale Blvd. You won't need an umbrella for most of it, just hop between spots. That's the magic of Atwater on a day like this.
