The Satellite — the Silver Lake music venue that Atwater Village claims too
The Satellite (formerly Spaceland) at 1717 Silver Lake Boulevard has been booking shows since the 1990s and is one of the organizing institutions of the Silver Lake music scene that Atwater Village lives next to and benefits from. Bands that became important played here before they became important: Beck, Weezer, Silversun Pickups, The Killers, the list of acts that had early Spaceland shows is the history of 2000s indie rock in Los Angeles.
The room holds about 300 people. The stage is the right size for the capacity. The calendar tends toward indie, alternative, and the kind of music Silver Lake has always been associated with. The shows often run late and the bar is always open.
From Atwater Village: a 10-minute drive or a walkable distance depending on how you feel about walking Silver Lake Boulevard at night. Dinner at Spina or Baby Battista in Atwater before the show. After: the Silverlake Lounge on Sunset Blvd or back to Club Tee Gee if it is still running.
