A Rainy Day in Larchmont Village
Rain in LA is a gift. Everyone else stays home. You go to Larchmont.
Park on the residential blocks just east of Larchmont Blvd, try Lucerne or June St. Free, easy, and you'll loop back to your car naturally by the end of the day.
9:00am, Coffee first, always. Start at Café Midi (148 N Larchmont Blvd). Grab a window seat if you can get one. Order the cortado and watch the rain hit the boulevard. It's small, it's cozy, it's exactly right for a slow morning.
10:00am, Browse without rushing. Duck into Chevalier's Books at 133 N Larchmont. This place has been here since the 1940s and it shows, in the best way. Tell whoever's working what you've liked lately and let them find you something. Budget at least 30 minutes.
11:00am, Lunch at Girasole. Head up to 225 N Larchmont. It's Italian, it's warm, the pasta is the move. They do brunch on weekends too. Sit inside near the back if there's a wait for tables, the bar area is underrated.
12:30pm, Quick stop for wine intel. Right next door at Larchmont Village Wine, Spirits & Cheese (223 N Larchmont), pick up a bottle for tonight. The staff actually knows their stuff. Tell them your budget and that you want something to drink while it's raining. They'll handle it.
1:15pm, The Tar Pits, seriously. Drive 10 minutes west to the La Brea Tar Pits (5801 Wilshire Blvd). Rain makes this place feel prehistoric in the best way. Pit 91 and Project 23 are actively being excavated, it's wild to watch. The mammoth skeletons inside never get old. Give it an hour.
2:30pm, République for afternoon coffee or a glass of something. You're already on La Brea, walk down to 624 S La Brea. The building alone is worth it (it's a 1929 Charlie Chaplin studio). Order a pastry and an Americano, or go full treat and get a glass of wine. Sit as long as they'll let you.
4:00pm, Head back to the village for a scent detour. Stop into the scent room on Larchmont for something you didn't know you needed. It's the kind of shop that makes rainy afternoons feel intentional.
5:00pm, Ice cream in the rain is correct, actually. Salt & Straw is at 240 N Larchmont. The seasonal menu rotates constantly, ask what's new. Don't skip the tasting spoons. Eat it while walking under the awnings.
6:30pm, End at The Parlour Room. Drive two minutes to 2319 Melrose Ave. Natural wine, cheese boards, low lighting, good music. This is your landing spot. Order a glass of whatever the person behind the bar is excited about and let the evening go wherever it goes.
You've got the bottle from Larchmont Wine & Spirits for when you get home. The night is covered.
