Bavel brings serious Middle Eastern cooking to Mateo Street
Ori Menashe already had one of the harder reservations in downtown LA with Bestia. Bavel, his follow-up on Mateo Street in the Arts District, runs in the same lane: high energy, downtown crowd, food that people plan around. The focus here shifts to Middle Eastern small plates, meat, and fish dishes.
With 4.6 stars across nearly 1,900 Google reviews, it has clearly earned its reputation over time rather than just riding an opening buzz. The price point is firmly in splurge territory, so this is not an every-Tuesday spot for most people. But for a group dinner or a meal you want to remember, it holds up.
Reservations are essentially required. There is a patio if you want to be outside, and the full bar covers cocktails, wine, and beer. If you have been meaning to go since it opened and keep putting it off, go ahead and book the table.
